Fundraising, back to writing
Friday, July 18, 2008
Wow, it has been a while since I’ve checked in. I have been up to my nose with training, fund-raising and Wedding #2 stuff. The thing that is really consuming me right now is fund-raising.
Wednesday, Chris and I made the trip out to Brookline to the Jimmy Fund HQ to attend an information session about the Marathon in September. There were a grand total of 6 of us in attendance (Chris and I, another couple, a single guy and Marianne [Assistant Walk Director]) and I am not going to lie, with an expected 8000 walked this year (2500+ walking the full marathon route) I expected more like 600 people.. not just 6. Tattoo Designing
Friday, June 20, 2008
This is a phoenix I drew for my friend (left) and her back after she had it tattooed (right). Through trail and error and a lot of research I have slowly learned what a good tattoo design is made up of. I have a sketch book that I have been putting some of my best ideas in for a couple of years that I have brought to several tattoo artists. All of them say the same things about the same drawings, which would make good tattoos and which would not.

Black Wedding Dress : Vol. II
Thursday, June 19, 2008
The wedding dress. Probably the single most important purchase for your wedding. If you go to a conventional bridal salon you can expect to try on dresses that will not fit you and you are forced to envision a dress 4 sizes bigger or 10 sizes smaller (because they can’t possibly carry every dress in every size, it would make their overhead far to high. Expect that if you normally wear a size 6 you will be buying a size 10 (depending on the dress) because all wedding dresses run super small. And most importantly, if you are looking for a dress in a color other then white, campaign, ivory or any other shade of white you will have to special order it without ever seeing it in the color you want or you will be forced to buy a bridesmaids dress.

4 Quick Tips: Tattoos

1. Find the best artist that you can
When it comes a tattoo quality and price are things you are not going to want to skimp on. It has been said a million times and I am going to say it again: You get what you pay for. A dirty shop can result in a nasty infection and possibly even a disease (these shops are still around). If you see someone on the street and you really like the work they have do not be afraid to walk up to them and ask them about it. Word of mouth is the best way to find an artist

Greener Trash
Tuesday, June 17, 2008

Since I have started recycling full force I have noticed that the amount of trash that we have to throw away has gone from about a bag a week (14 gallon bag) to like a bag a month. This is all and well except for the fact that if you throw away food the smell after like 2 weeks is horrendous. I couldn’t see throwing away almost empty trash bags because that was just a waste.

On Your Left
Friday, June 13, 2008
Since I have moved to Boston, aside from the driving, I really only have one complaint; bicycles. People here seem to have zero etiquette when it comes to riding their bikes around town, on sidewalks and on bike paths. Coming from a state where the rules of the bike are actually followed so no one dies and then coming here where no one gives a f*ck and just expects you to make way…
Don’t come riding up behind me and expect me to move; I don’t have eyes in the back of my head. Don’t yell out “Thank you!” from behind me and expect me to move either.. kind of hard to know what you are thanking me for when I haven’t done anything that deserves thanks. I probably won’t do anything either, just to spite. If I get another biker trying to squeeze by on my right, I’m going to clothes-hang them without apology.
The solution is simple (every other state I have biked through this is the norm): “On your left” and pass me on my left. Three words, one action, so simple.
Ink Sickness
Friday, June 13, 2008
While waiting to be served at one of those restaurants on Newbury Street, a 20-somethings couple was seated next to us…
[Girl glances over at me]
“Excuse me waiter, can we switch tables”
[She is ignored by wait staff]
Girl to boyfriend thing- “Tattoos make me sick, I can’t look at thatwhile I’m trying to eat” and she gets up and moves to a table that is completely opposite the floor from us.

Pro Sports “soundtracks”
Friday, June 13, 2008
With all of the hype here in Boston about Celtics and the playoffs, I am really tired of people asking if I am racist because I’m just not that into the whole basketball thing. I am assuming they get to that deduction with this equation:
(White girl)+Boston+(Celtics in playoffs)-(white girls enthusiasm)=(white girl doesn’t like the Celtics because they are a mostly black team so she must be racist) Read the rest of this entry »
Training tonight
Thursday, June 12, 2008
With three point something miles last night at a run/walk pace, I would really like to see what we can accomplish with tonight’s four mile walk. By the time we hit the marathon (which is a walking marathon..) I would love to be able to run for at least thirty minutes straight.. something I have never done before in my life.. not even all downhill.
I still need to find a better four mile route for us because this sucker drags us through two of Boston’s projects.. both of which are on my not-so-great-places-in-Boston list. Like, you should defiantly be out of these hoods come night fall.
